What piece of advice are you tired of hearing?

Q. All throughout my pregnancy, people have been giving me pregnancy advice. Some advice has been good while others have been overused or not relevant. These days, I keep receiving the "get plenty of rest now" advice which I find rather annoying. Yes, it's good advice but they aren't the first one to tell me ... could they not think of anything else to say?

What advice have you gotten throughout your pregnancy that you find annoying?

A. As soon as I hear the words 'do yourself a favour' or 'you know what you should do' I start to mentally shut down! Bizarrely, the people who seem to give the most 'free advice' are those who have never been pregnant!

I decided early on that there were three opinions (other than my own instinct) that I am going to listen to - my husband, my sister and my doctor. Whenever anyone else gives me their opinion, I just smile politely and look for the earliest opportunity to get out of the conversation.

The worst is a woman in her 50's at work - she is an expert on everything as it is, but pregnancy seems to be her current specialist subject. And she's never been pregnant! She is also what I call a "tummy-toucher", and whilst I am quite happy to share my body with my baby, it is still my body, and I am not so thrilled about sharing it with anyone else!

The most ridiculous advice I have had is that playing anything other than classical music will cause baby to be restless, I shouldn't allow my dogs to bark near me while I am pregnant as it scares the baby, and - my personal favorite - waterbirths are incredibly dangerous because not enough research has been done on them to know what effect the water has on the baby, and unless I get out to push the baby is going to drown!

How am I suppose to get 2500 calaries a day?
Q. I have been looking online for pregnancy advice (I am 7 weeks pregnant) and 3 sites have stated that a pregnant woman needs to have at least 2500 calories a day. How is that possible? Any one else hear that? And how do you get all those calories?
Yea I went back and watch the video clip I miss understood it. But all your advice on calories is awesome still thanks :)

A. I don't know where you are looking but if you eat like that you are going to be bigger than a blue whale when it is all said and done. You only need 300 extra calories a day and you don't necessarily NEED those. 500 a day when breast feeding. So yeah...that is crazy!

Why do teenagers get such a kick out of this?
Q. I don't get why there are so many pregnant trolls. Most people give real advice, how is it funny to read pregnancy advice? I don't get it.

A. It's amusing to them to hear people get all worried about what our world is coming to when nothing has happened at all. They're just immature attention whores.

What are some of the most benificial exercises to do during pregnancy?
Q. I work a job that requires me to stand up 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and when I get home, the last thing I want to do is work out. I've always been thin, so I've never had to exercise to stay in shape, but I've been told it's vital to exercise during pregnancy. Any advice?

A. Walking and swimming are good to do. There is a million 'work out' videos/DVDs out on the market. There is also Yoga for pregnancy videos/DVDs that are amazing. You wont even know you are 'working out'....they are all abotu relaxing and stretching along with slight easy toning exercises. This will help you relax and you muscles be loose, which you might enjoy after a long day at work...killing two birds with one stone. :)

I woudl be VERY careful doing anything very physically involved such as basketball...the potential for being jarred around or bumped hard is not a good idea.

The basic rule of thumb is to not start anythign you dont normally do to prevent injury (since your muscles are more relaxed during pregnancy). So if you are a jogger, then continue jogging, however if you are NOT a regular jogger, then do not begin that routine. Walking and swimming are easy enough activities that even if you are not a strict walker/power walker it is okay...we use our legs anf feet to walk everyday. :)

Also, you should be aware of your heart rate. My doctor told me to not go over 130 for more than 15 minutes, so check with your doctor (he/she will even know good exercises for you to try) to make sure of what your heartrate shoudl be around and for how long to keep it there. You can buy an inexpensive heart rate monitor at Walmart for like $10 to monitor your heart rate should you be walking outside not in a gym atmosphere.

Good luck. ;)
