What week are you tested for gestational diabetes?
Q. I'll be 23 weeks on Monday and I have an appointment with my OB then. I thought she said I'd have to do the glucose test at that time, but she may have meant later. I wondered when you're typically tested for gestational diabetes in pregnancy?

Also, I've noticed I am so thirsty lately. I know this can be a sign of diabetes. But I wondered if dry mouth/thirst is also just a symptom that some pregnant women deal with (who DON'T have diabetes)?

Thanks!

A. This is usually done between the 24th and 28th weeks of pregnancy.

How often does gestational diabetes go away?
Q. I have gestaional diabetes and the doc have me check my sugar everyday by poking my finger. Sugar is just right when im at work but soon as I get home it goes back up. I know its becuz im active at work but my main concern is I will continue to have diabetes after pregnancy.

A. Gary is wrong, type 2 diabetes is not JUST from weight gain.
There are plenty of type 2 diabetics who were never fat and plenty of fat people who are not diabetic.
Some ethnic groups, no matter the size are also more prone to diabetes.

the link I provided has a great discussion on diabetes of all kinds including gestational and type 2 diabetes but these are questions you should be asking your doctor.

What type of diabetes happens during pregnancy?
Q. Like the question states, what type of diabetes happens during pregnancy.
More importantly, why does the head of most babies are usually abnormally large after such a pregnancy?
I am more looking for an answer on why there heads are usually large after such a pregnancy.

It is a question my teacher has been asking and he wants to know why.

A. There is a slight increased risk of the fetus or newborn dying when the mother has gestational diabetes, but this risk is lowered with effective treatment and careful watching of the mother and fetus. High blood glucose levels often go back to normal after delivery. However, women with gestational diabetes should be watched closely after giving birth and at regular intervals to detect diabetes early.
Up to 40% of women with gestational diabetes develop full-blown diabetes within 5-10 years after delivery. The risk may be increased in obese women.
