A couple of questions about postpartum depression?

Q. What are the chances of getting postpartum depression?
If you've had clinical depression, what are the chances of getting postpartum depression, or depression during pregnancy?
Does postpartum depression ever require medication?
How long do the symptoms of PPD last, and how can it be prevented/ dealt with?
Thaanks!

A. if you have a history of depression your are at a higher risk and so are moms that had c-secs. Yes it can require medications, exercise is the best way to deal with depression as well as a good diet and vitamins, usually they last a year, it is common in a lot of women to get PPD and there is nothing wrong, it just happens because of all the hormonal changes.
I did have PPD and was put on meds, and I still breastfeed under the advice of my dr and my daughters pediatrician, she is now 16 months and very healthy.

anyone know of an effective and safe treatment for depression during pregnancy?
Q. i'm 10 weeks pregnant and insanely depressed.. it's really bad.. i will see a doctor about it, but in the mean time would like to know if anyone was able to effectively treat their depression during pregnancy.. are there any meds you can take? i'm not just a touch sad, i'm severely depressed..

A. Daily exercise would be the safest route, and it can be a very effective depression treatment for some people. Of course, it's really hard to exercise every day when you're depressed. You doctor will know if there are any antidepressants which have been proven to be safe during pregnancy.

How to propose with newborn twins?
Q. Im wiriting a novel and the boyfriend wants to propse after the girlfriend gave birth to twins. The mother had depression during the pregnancy. Anyway i could fast-forward the story so the kids could be older and able to crawl or something. Please help!

A. Get him to buy T-shirts for the babies. One that says "Will You" and the other "Marry Me". Maybe one word on the front and one on the back? And if they are old enough to roll, that might be cute? Or he could tie a banner between the twins and when they crawl away the message is revealed?

Good luck!
