How can I prepare for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby?

Q. Could someone please kindly help me?
Im 25 years old and Caucasion. My husband is 27 and Latino. Are there more risks with having a baby if it is interracial?
Also how can I prepare for pregnancy? I am so scared that I am not oging ot have a healthy child. I used to work in the health cre field and you see so much wrong. I just want to do everything possible to help have a healthy child and a healthy pregnancy. Any tips or advice? We plan to start trying maybe this December. Thanks! I am so grateful for all your answers!

A. There are no more risks based upon interracial children. My suggestions? If you are on the pill you should go off it now and use other forms of birthcontrol until you are ready to conceive. Go ahead and start taking prenatal vitamins and a folic acid supplment. If you don't eat healthy START. You should also get plenty of exercise, walking is great especially when you are pregnant so start now if you don't already. If you smoke, stop now. If your husband smokes ask him to quit. Make your home a no smoking zone to everyone who comes over. Nothing wrong with having a drink now and again, but limited and once you are pregnant NEVER!

Once the child arrives, if you can breastfeed him/her, you will never regret it!

Now, stop stressing about it. A great source for child development is Dr. Sears. I'd recommend purchasing his books. Also, take your concerns to your OB/GYN and start shopping for a good pediatrician.

Will having strong abs before pregnancy help my body bounce back after the baby is born?
Q. I'm not pregnant yet, but we're trying and I'm wondering how hard I should train right now before I actually get pregnant. I've heard some random comments about how once you're pregnant, it's not really safe to exercise your abs too much so I'm thinking I should work them hard before I get pregnant. Will this help my stomach recover after pregnancy? Any tips or suggestions from those who have been there would be appreciated!

A. you are right it is good to have strong tummy muscles it will help you to get right back you also if you get pregnant want to keep your tummy skin oiled up all the time so the skin can stretch easy and you may not get any stretch marks or for sure will have very little of them and who ever told its not good to exercise ads when you are pregnant was dead wrong you want to get on a exercise regimen for your self all through pregnancy different strains for different mos. unless dr says not to or you are a high risk baby carrier. i am a nurse and your delivery will be so much easier if you stay physically fit do not treat your self ant different some women think because their pregnant they should do nothing and all that gonna happen is your gonna get big and fat and have a real hard time getting that body in shape you seem like the type that cares what happens after ward i respect that! you will also have more energy for you and your baby i say good for you and good thinking ahead.

I have had horrible headaches with this pregnancy, any tips?
Q. I have tried the Tylenol, cool cloth on forehead, lying down in a dark room....nothing has helped. The headaches to me are similar to the ones I got years ago when I cut out coffee, they are right above my right eye and a dull ache. I am 13 weeks now, I never had this quite this bad with my last pregnancy. Any tips?

A. Hey holly,
Thanks for your answer, will there are several causes of headaches during pregnancy:
1.Stress, so try to relax.
2.Dehydration, so try to drink lots of water at least 2 liters per day.
3.Check your blood pressure, because it is very common for pregnant woman to get high blood pressure during pregnancy.
4.Do you have Migraine or do any member of your family have it because it is inherited, any way migraine is always associated with nausea and if the pain is intense it can lead to vomiting.Plus it can be associated with numbeness in the face.
My advice to you is to relax, drink lots of fluids and eat lots of fruits and veggies, avoid having any kind of pain killer now and if the pain persist visit your doctor.

What food changes should be made during pregnancy?
Q. Should I stay away from certain foods? Are there foods that I should eat more of? (Any general pregnancy health tips)

A. You should stay away from raw fish/oysters and fish with high mercury levels...
You should stay away from unpastuerized dairy products.
You should eat lean proteins and lots of veggies/fruits and vitamins/minerals, etc.

You don't need to avoid lunch meat. I've eaten plenty of lunch meat from the grocery store and nothing has happened to me or my baby and my dad thinks that rule is ridiculous (he has been an OB/GYN for 26 years and is one of the best in Atlanta)...
