How can I prepare for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby?

Q. Could someone please kindly help me?
Im 25 years old and Caucasion. My husband is 27 and Latino. Are there more risks with having a baby if it is interracial?
Also how can I prepare for pregnancy? I am so scared that I am not oging ot have a healthy child. I used to work in the health cre field and you see so much wrong. I just want to do everything possible to help have a healthy child and a healthy pregnancy. Any tips or advice? We plan to start trying maybe this December. Thanks! I am so grateful for all your answers!

A. There are no more risks based upon interracial children. My suggestions? If you are on the pill you should go off it now and use other forms of birthcontrol until you are ready to conceive. Go ahead and start taking prenatal vitamins and a folic acid supplment. If you don't eat healthy START. You should also get plenty of exercise, walking is great especially when you are pregnant so start now if you don't already. If you smoke, stop now. If your husband smokes ask him to quit. Make your home a no smoking zone to everyone who comes over. Nothing wrong with having a drink now and again, but limited and once you are pregnant NEVER!

Once the child arrives, if you can breastfeed him/her, you will never regret it!

Now, stop stressing about it. A great source for child development is Dr. Sears. I'd recommend purchasing his books. Also, take your concerns to your OB/GYN and start shopping for a good pediatrician.

How can I prepare for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby?
Q. I'm 21 years old and east Indian. My husband is 49 and Caucasian. Are there more risks with having a baby if it is interracial? Does the father's age the baby's health>?
Also how can I prepare for pregnancy? I want to do everything possible to help have a healthy child and a healthy pregnancy. Any tips or advice? We plan to start trying maybe in January. Thanks! I appreciate it so much :)

A. Both of you start taking vitamins. You take prenatals, he can take men's one a day. You can find them both at wal-mart. Different birth defects are associated with different nationalities. You should make an appt. with your ob/gyn and you both go and talk with him or her so you can have all your questions answered. As far as age goes he should pose no risk, he may not produce the sperm that a 25 year old man would, that's why it's important he takes the vitamins. He will have healthier sperm that live longer and swim faster. Good Luck.. Much baby dust to you!!!

Can an overweight person have a healthy pregnancy?
Q. I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), insulin resistance, and hypothyroidism. I am overweight. Trying very hard to lose, but I recently injured my knee (torn ACL) so that's just made it harder. Anyways I am on 1st round of fertility meds (started before torn ACL and didn't wanna waste the money and cycle). I have concerns over having a healthy pregnancy being overweight, but my doc doesn't seem too worried. Can I have a healthy pregnancy?

A. Sure! I see people with all those issues everyday and they have a healthy pregnancy. It's not as easy, but if you are strict in your diet and devoted to your baby, you'll have a healthy little one!

What are my chances of having a healthy pregnancy and baby after having a stillbirth of unknown causes?
Q. I had a stillborn son, two years ago. We don't know why it happened. I am trying to convince my husband to have another baby, but I also have my own fears. I mean, what if it happens again? Tell me what are my chances of having another stillbirth. What are my chances of having a healthy pregnancy and subsequent birth and baby? Any information, not opinions, are appreciated. Please and thank you in advance.
Does anyone know if my next pregnancy will be categorized as high risk or anything, since my stillbirth?

A. I can't imagine what it must have been like to lose a child...

One option that is available to you is preconception counseling. Ask your OB if they can do that or you. If not, find another! In preconception counseling, your OB will sit down with you, review your history, and perhaps even do some blood work.

Because of your loss, any subsequent pregnancies will be categorized as high risk. That doesn't necessarily mean much more than a few extra visits and some extra ultrasounds, though. You also would not be able to deliver at an "all natural" birthing center.

I hope this information helps you... Book an appointment! Maybe sitting down with a doctor will help to ease your husband's concerns, as well as your own.
