Q. Im 40 weeks prego, (desprate for this baby to come out) - and I've never drank coffee throughout the pregnancy. If I drank coffee now, will that cause contractions? If so, How much cups should I drink?
A. I don't think coffee will do it. Try having sex, walking, bouncing on a birthing ball, i have also heard the pineapple works. I did sit ups(with hubby's help) and my water broke after about 10 min. I only did about 5 sit ups. Good Luck.
Has anyone had an aversion to the smell of coffee in early pregnancy?
Q. I was just curious as to know if anyone had an aversion to the smell of coffee in their early pregnancy?? I recently had a customer go through my line at work and smell like this one type of coffee and it completely made my gag and made my stomach turn .. i'm ttc and was just thinking of some early symptoms.
A. You know, it's kind of funny, my boss was just recently telling me a story about when she was pregnant with her first son. She said she couldn't stand coffee during the pregnancy. She had to go into a separate room while her husband was making it because the smell was making her sick. However, during her second pregnancy it was the opposite and she craved it constantly and would treat herself to a very small amount every once in a while to kill the craving.
I also recently had a customer (I work in a coffee house) who was coming every day and suddenly stopped when she got pregnant because she couldn't even bare to come through the drive through because of the smell. I think it's probably pretty common.
It will probably last until your pregnancy is over.

How much coffee is safe to drink during pregnancy?
Q. I recently started working at a really stressful job, and started drinking coffee again. I've been having about a cup a day of normal strength coffee, except on weekends when I'm off. Is that too much?
A. It depends on how big your cup is :) 150-250 mg of caffeine is considered safe by my doctor (your doctor might recommend more or less), so look at the caffeine content per cup on your coffee's label & then you can figure out how much you can have! Different coffees have different caffeine contents
What is a good way to get some energy in the last stretch of pregnancy?
Q. I feel guilty drinking my morning cup of coffee but if I dont have it I feel worse for being a lazy parent to my 2yr old because I feel like there are weights pulling down all over my body - including my eyelids. Any suggestions on how to get a little more energy or even low energy ways to entertain my son. THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!

A. As another pregnant woman with a very active toddler, my first admonition would be, don't beat yourself up over having a cup of coffee! ONE cup a day isn't likely to have an adverse effect on your little girl. Pair it with a breakfast that contains both protein and complex carbohydrates (if you aren't already), because it can help you sustain your energy levels longer. Same goes for eating small amounts of that combination of foods throughout the day.
(Putting that coffee on ice is also a great pick-me-up on summer mornings, and since it dilutes slightly from the ice, it will last a bit longer.)
Finally, I'm finding that creative activities that can be done at the kitchen table or coffee table (clay, finger painting, drawing) are a godsend because I don't have to be on my feet so much... and [however you may feel about the food there,] the indoor playgrounds of fast food joints are a great place you can take him to burn off energy without making you use all of yours chasing him. :)
Hope this helps. Best wishes to you, Mama!
