Q. I've always been told that pregnancy lasts nine months, but with so many of my friends pregnant, they're using pregnancy calculators on facebook and it says pregnancy lasts 40 weeks, which is TEN months! What the heck? If that's right, then why have we always been told nine months? Why is it in the media? Why do they name fricken MOVIES after nine-month pregnancies just to confuse the crap out of us?
An explanation would be great, because everything I thought I knew about being pregnant is probably wrong. Thanks.

A. Well it's 9 months because months have more than 4 weeks the average is 4 weeks 3 days (4.33).
If you divide that by 40 you get 9.2 which would be 9 months 2 weeks but did you know the first 2 weeks of pregnancy you are actually not pregnant? But because doctors don't know the exact day that conception happen they start to count from your LMP.
Confusing right? But that is how it works.

Why do we count weeks pregnant from last period?
Q. I just took an HPT a few days ago and found out that I am pregnant. After that I used some pregnancy calculator thing that told me I am 5 weeks(almost 6) along already but the thing is I am almost 100% sure we conceived on July 4th so that would make me 3 weeks(3 and 2 days). So why is it that we count the weeks from our last menstrual period? Why not from ovulation?
A. This is just an estimation . Since women ovulate at different times during the month ( varies a day or two), it's impossible to know precisely when a woman ovulated. Since the method for estimating due dates needs to be " general" they go by last period since most women know that date.
I hope this helps! Here's a great website, too!

When did I conceive if my lmp was march 17 but I ended my birthcontrol pill on march 21st?
Q. Hello everyone, I am currently pregnant. I dont know how far along I am. Everyone tells me to do the pregnancy calculator with lmp. My lmp was march 17th but I stopped using birthcontrol on march 21st. Does this change any of the dates when I conceived?
A. The sugar pills at the end of the pack don't count, if that's what you mean. If you took your last active pill before March 17, then your last menstrual period was March 17.
How many weeks pregnant were you when you found out you were?
Q. I am curious! I haven't tested yet, but according to the pregnancy calculator I'm only 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant.
A. i was 4 weeks. i took a test the day before my period and it came back a real faint positive!
