What kind of acne/facial scrub and facial moisturizer is best during pregnancy?

Q. Like many women, i have been breaking out really bad since I got pregnant, and the cold weather and wind doesn't help very much either. What facial scrub and moisturizer do you use that is safe to use during pregnancy? I've heard that Aveeno is really good, I would just like to get some advice before I spend the money on something, since that stuff is expensive. Thanks a bunch!

A. I was just reading something online at parents.com about how certain facial cleansers and moisturizers are harmful during pregnancy cause they soak into skin and get in blood streams, you need to ask your doc, he may even be able to prescribe you something. With my first my doc told me to wash with a non soap cleanser. Even if its not for your face.

How to treat a urinary tract infection during pregnancy?
Q. My friend in Europe was told by her doctor to take medicine for urinary tract infection and, when I look at this medicine description in English, I see it is contraindicated during pregnancy. Doctor has tried to scare her into taking the medicine, saying such infection could very possibly go to her kidneys and cause terrible troubles. But if a medicine is worse than the disease, what can be done?!

Please, if anyone knows effective and safe treatment for this ailment during pregnancy, do share! Thank you.

A. If you get a UTI during pregnancy, you need to go to your doctor, and take the antibiotics they prescribe you to clear it up. there really is no other way of getting rid of it. you can drink some cranberry juice to help. but that isn't going to take it away. the antibiotics won't hurt your baby. the doctor will prescribe some thing that is safe for use during pregnancy. woman get bladder/ UTI infections all the time during their pregnancy, and they take the medicine. the truth is, that its more dangerous to leave the infection untreated. believe me i know. i had a bladder infection once, and i didn't get it treated for a while, and then it spread to my kidneys, causing a bad kidney infection. it was so terrible. i got so sick. had a severely high fever. I went to the er, and i had to be hospitalized for a couple days. your friend shouldn't put her baby at risk. if she leaves this untreated and it spreads to her kidneys, which it most likely will, then it could risk hurting her baby. tell her to listen to her doctor.

good luck.

What are you not supposed to eat during pregnancy?
Q. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and can't seem to get a straight answer about what foods to avoid during pregnancy. I heard that I can't eat deli meat, asparagas, garlic, egg nog and a whole bunch of other stuff. My practitioner told me not to be paranoid and that I can pretty much do anything but smoke, drink and skydive. What's the real deal?

A. You can eat pretty much anything that your stomach can tolerate. I would avoid undercooked me I.E. have your steaks well done instead of medium. Do not take herbal supplements without consulting your ob first some have harmful effects on your baby. Relax, be glad you are able to eat. Many women during pregnancy eating is a very hard thing to do.

What to do about hemorrhoids during pregnancy?
Q. I am 23 weeks pregnant and I have noticed that I have 2 little hemorrhoids, they don't hurt or bleed. But I hate them, I developed them during pregnancy due to constipation. I am so worried I want to get rid of them so bad! Is there any medicine i can use to get rid of them? Help!

A. You can use Preparation H cream, or use Tucks pads. Both of these are over-the-counter and safe to use during pregnancy. If these don't help, ask your provider at your next appointment, and they can give you a prescription for something stronger.

Good Luck with your baby!
