Have any studies been done on the effect of maternal stress on infants in the womb?

Q. I had 2 high stress pregnancies that resulted in kids with sensory disorders as well as other developmental problems. Why is it so taboo to be nice or kind to pregnant women for the baby's sake in the modern age?

A. Yes, there has been research done, however, it's correlational, not definite.

Can stress bring on early labor or keep baby in longer?
Q. I've had a very stress free pregnancy this time around. I'm 36 weeks now tho and suddenly I have quite a load of stresses.... I feel like an emotional teenager again! I'd like baby to stay put a few more weeks but can stress cause it to happen sooner?

A. a huge amount of stress can yes but its not to severe then it doesnt usually start early labour but it can distress the baby so try and relax as much as possible, its mostly your hormones that cause it. when i was heavily pregnant with my daughter i had a lot of problems with my family and was under a huge amount of stress but i went a week overdue.

Will stress affect the pregnancy of a goat?
Q. I have 2 pygmy goats that I plan on showing at a local fair. They were recently bred and one is due the week before the show and the other is due the week after the fair. Does stress affect the pregnancy? If so, how traumatic can it be? I'm sort of thinking I should just leave them at home, but I would like to know about this anyways. Thanks!

A. Stress effects any mammal's pregnancy. It can cause premature labor in the animal that is due after the fair. And the one that is due before the fair should not be away from her baby that long. And you don't want to take a newborn with you, there are way too many potential diseases that the baby could come in contact with. Best to keep animals that are pregnant at home in a safe non-stressful environment.

Do you think a mums mood during pregnancy reflects on her baby?
Q. Say a woman is stressed throughout pregnancy and during labor, do you think the baby would cry more?
Or if a woman is completely relaxed throughout both, the baby would be more calm and mellow itself?
Could there be that kind of psychological connection between mum and baby?

Thanks for any answers :D

A. Yes it does, but not for the reasons you listed. When you are stressed your body releases chemicals (a whole cocktail of them) and these chemicals make it to your baby. You are pregnant, you should be very happy, don't LET anything make you unhappy!
