Do my wife needs bed rest in last week of pregnancy?
Q. We have an asian tradition to arrange for a housemaid/female supporter etc during last week of pregnancy ( especially in 1st pregnancy) till 40 days after giving birth. The female take complete bed rent during this time.
Is there any medical logic behind it. Does a female really need to take bed rest after delivery or she can continue the routine work ? I am really confused as now i am living away from native country and maids etc are quite expensive here.

A. No need. My wife and I know lots of other that are doing things up until the deliver. No need unless the doctor says bed rest.
Is it true that most pregnancies are 40 weeks in duration?
Q. Since 9(months)x4=36 weeks, than why did I just read that most pregnancies are 40 weeks long?

A. Not all months have 4 weeks. Some have 5. If you count date-to-date, it's 9 months but if you go by weeks it's 40. Doctor's go by weeks, not months.
Experienced Mommies: How long usually after your 40 week appointment do they schedule an induction?
Q. My baby's due date is this coming Monday, the 5th. My 40 week appointment will be the Thursday, the 8th. I still have no dilation or any labor signs... I was wondering at my 40 week appointment will they schedule or talk about an induction if baby decides not to come still. Also, are there any ways to try to fasten things up..?? I have been having the cramping and pelvic pressure as well as hicks day to day now but nothing major. :( Thanks!
A. It depends on your doctor and how your pregnancy is going. At my 40 week appointment I was sent for an ultrasound to check my fluid levels, if they were low I would have gotten induced right then and there. They were normal and my doctor said if I didn't go into labor by my next appointment she would induce me, I would have been 41 weeks.
