How much weight did you gain with your pregnancies?

Q. My first- pre pregnancy 136 40 weeks 180
My second Pregnancy(only 4 weeks along though)- Pre Pregnancy 129

Did you gain more or less weight with second pregnancy? Did you show sooner?

A. My first pregnancy: Pre (128-too skinny for my height though), 40 weeks, 2 days (155, gained 27 lbs)
My second pregnancy: Pre (140-again I was slightly underweight), 39 weeks (220, gained 80 lbs)
My third pregnancy: Pre (230-now overweight!), 36 weeks, 6 days (230, no gain)

Now I am back around 180...only about 15 lbs from where I would look and feel best. I am just shy of 6 feet tall. I showed the soonest with baby number two. But baby number three I never showed much at all. I had some serious complications with my second and was on tons of meds for my liver. It was why I probably gained so much and lost none afterward.

Did eating too many sweets make you have a big baby?
Q. I think I'm addicted to carbs and sugar! I love to eat italian bread, pasta, ice cream, and other sweets. Since I've been pregnant it seems to be worse (for awhile I was eating a McFlurry a day). I still eat a good variety of fruits and veggies, and my weight gain has been mostly in my belly. I'm at the end of my pregnancy (40+5) and I'm afraid I'll have trouble delivering. Did anyone have a similar situation?

A. It will affect how big you get, but not how big your baby gets. The size of the baby is about genetics not what you ate.

How many weeks is the average woman pregnant?
Q. I know that a full term pregnancy is 40 weeks. What I want to know is how long the average pregnancy lasts. (specifically, 1st pregnancies in the United States)

Do woman in the US tend to deliver on time, or a little early or late?

A. Well, all I can find is stats for full-term vs. pre-term births. Since full-term is considered anything after 37 weeks, it's hard to know. I imagine most babies are born between 36-42 weeks. Most doctors won't let a woman go more than 2 weeks late, and most will try to stop labor before 36 weeks.

how much weight does a baby gain in the last weeks of pregnancy?
Q. I am 35 weeks and 2 days and the doctor estimated that my baby weighed somewhere around 4 pounds and 13 ounces. She said that he is small for his gestational age. I was wondering how much weight do baby's usually gain in the last weeks of pregnancy (35-40 weeks) ??

A. No matter his weight he will be fine. My daughter was born at 38 weeks and was only 6lbs, she has had no problems. She is still very small but the doctors are not concerned because she has hit every milestone, either on time or early. To answer your question they can gain about an oz a day in the last month. So stop fretting your little guy would be fine. Good luck!

After an ultasound for pregnancy doctor told me that your water is access. Is this can make problem?

Q. Ater 18 weeks pregnancy doctor told me that your water in utrous is in higher side. I am advised to have an ultrasound after 6 weeks. Is this problematic. Why it occurs?

A. I had the same thing happen with my 7th pregnancy. I had 3x the water than a usually pregnancy. They told me that might be a sign that there's was something wrong with my baby. I had to go in for an ultrasound every 6 weeks for that pregnancy. That was okay with me, I liked seeing my babies before they were born...lol. Then they said that she was okay and that having THAT much fluid might cause the umbilical cord to come out first because of the big gush of waters and that wasn't a good thing. I go to church and my whole church family prayed continually for me and by the end of my pregnancy the fluid went back to normal. Hope everything is okay at your ultrasound. Take care.

How can a fibroid affect the pregnancy?
Q. After my first ultrasound at 5 weeks pregnancy they found a little amniotic sac in my uterus and also two fibroid ( one aprox. 4x4x4 and the other aprox. 2x2x2). How are they going to interfere with my preganancy? Am I safe?

A. Complications during pregnancy due to fibroids is rare. Please talk to your doctor regarding your concerns. You can get information on the net, but your doctor can address your specific situation. Remember that many women have fibroids, and the far majority do not experience any complications in pregnancy. My best wishes to you.....

"Can a fibroid tumor harm the baby?
Probably not. Even if you do experience symptoms, they most likely won't affect the baby. However, your risk of miscarriage and premature delivery does increase slightly if you have fibroids. They occasionally cause the baby to be in an abnormal position for delivery. They can also stall labor, or, if they're located in or near the cervical opening, they may block the baby's passage. All of these (rather rare) problems can increase the likelihood of cesarean delivery."

http://health.discovery.com/centers/pregnancy/americanbaby/fibroids.html

"Most women with fibroids have no more trouble becoming pregnant than women who do not have fibroids, and their risk of a bad pregnancy outcome is no higher."

Is it safe to travel in 14th week of my pregnancy from USA to India?
Q. I am flying to India from USA in my 14th week pregnancy and coming back from India in 20th week of pregnancy. Is it safe to fly from USA to India since its more than 18 hours flight travel and India is a developing country??What precautions should I take? I read somewhere to buy FLIGHT SOCKS to avoid thrush, Is it really recommended?

A. consult your doctor.... but I say its fine for you to travel. You might be a bit uncomfortable on the way back, but its fine as long as you don't have any complicating conditions that might mean problems with your pregnancy. Flight Socks couldn't hurt. They are probably helpful, but not a necessity.

Is period like cramps and hips hurting normal at 6 weeks pregnancy?

Is it legal to ask about sex determination from doctor during pregnancy in Canada?

Q. I want to know whether it is legal to ask about sex determination during pregnancy period especially when you go for check upslike ultrasound at health centres in canada.

A. Yep, people ask all the time and if the doctor knows they will tell you. I'd hate to think though that you may abuse that info though.

Is it safe to travel by Air in 9th month of pregnancy ?
Q. Dear friends,

we are planning to travel by air in the 9th month of pregnancy.
The total flight time would be 90 minutes. The latest medical check-ups on a baby and mother have come normal.

Is it safe to take a flight at this time of pregnancy period?

Let us know if someone has any expert medical advice on this or share your experience if you've been thru this situation before.

warm regards.

A. I've always heard and read that you shouldn't fly past your 8th month, some say 7 and a half. Definitely run it past your doctor. He/she knows your case better than you could ever describe to us and would be the best person to advise you on this matter.

Does anyone get night sweats right before a period?
Q. I just had a baby on Feb 1st and had night sweats for several weeks after. They finally stopped. I had my 1st after pregnancy period on March 11. Just last night I had another night sweat and I am due for a period in a few days. Are the two related? Are my hormones still out of balance even though I have already had my first period?

A. Oh my gosh, before I got pregnant I used to get the night sweats so bad before I got my period. The sheets and my pajamas would literally be wet, it was horrible. It's just hormonal and now I've had them on and off all through my pregnancy. I don't think it means your hormones are out of balance, they just affect some women that way.
Congrats on the new baby!

Can a female have her period and be pregnant?
Q. Is it possible to be pregnant and still have a very heavy period? 'IF' said female was pregnant, wouldn't her having her period mean a miscarraige? If pregnancy + period 'is' possible (I've heard stories), shouldn't said period be light?

I know this is an odd question, but I'll take all and any answers, experiences, suggestions... Thank you.

A. If you are having you period while pregnant it is probably a miscarriage like you said. At the beginning of a pregnancy some women can have some bleeding which is normal. Another reason for bleeding during pregnancy is something called implantation bleeding. The bleeding usually takes place when the embryo is attaching to the wall of the uterus. It is usually more of a pinkish mucus when this happens.

what can i expect from the first doctor visit?

Q. I just called my doctor and asked if I needed to come in for a pregnancy blood test. I took a home bought test and it came out positive, the department said that if it was positive there was no need for a blood test. My question is, what can I expect from the very first doctor visit? Will they need to draw blood to determine how far along I actually am?

A. For mine, they did a pap, then checked that the uterus felt like it was the right size. We discussed my history and I think that's about it. E-pregnancy.com is a great site for more info. on pregnancy. Good luck!

Does anyone have any good websites for pregnancy please?
Q. I have hundreds of questions about pregnancy & labor and would like a good website where I can find all the answers to my questions.

A. www.pregnancy.com is my favorite site. It has week by week details on how your baby is and what is happening to your body.

Can anyone suggest some pregnancy type websites for me?
Q. Most extensive list wins 10 points.

I love reading pregnancy forums (especially TTC), I love celebrity pregnancy websites/celebrity children, I like reading anything pregnancy related. My main focus is TTC though.

What are the possibilities of being pregnant?
Q. I have been regular on my Birth Control pills for a year. Last month I just stopped taking them, I had sex for like 2 minutes last month & I am worried I could be pregnant. However, I have taken 2 preg. tests & they both came back negative. Is it because I have stopped the birth control that I haven't started my period yet? Any answers would be helpful.. thank you :]]

A. No one here will be able to tell you if you are pregnant. Almost all of the symptoms you get during pregnancy can be associated with something else.

Wait a while longer and take another test, go to the doctor or do some research before you go asking questions. Chances are, your question has been answered before.

How much exercise should i be doing in my pregnancy?

Q. I am 29 weeks pregnant now, and before the pregnancy I used to be in my university lacrosse team, so i was doing a lot of exercise, but since i became pregnant i just lost the will to exercise loads, and got told i should only be doing 30mins twice a week, but that doesnt sound right to me? I have been walking the dog a lot, and going to start doing weekly swimming now too, but is it too late? How much should i be doing now im 29weeks? Thank you

A. Maintaining a regular exercise routine throughout your pregnancy can help you stay healthy and feel your best. Regular exercise during pregnancy can improve your posture and decrease some common discomforts such as backaches and fatigue. There is evidence that physical activity may prevent gestational diabetes (diabetes that develops during pregnancy), relieve stress, and build more stamina needed for labor and delivery.

If you were physically active before your pregnancy, you should be able to continue your activity in moderation. Don't try to exercise at your former level; instead, do what's most comfortable for you now. Low impact aerobics are encouraged versus high impact. Do not let your heart rate exceed 140 beats per minute.

The pregnant competitive athlete should be closely followed by an obstetrician.

If you have never exercised regularly before, you can safely begin an exercise program during pregnancy after consulting with your health care provider, but do not try a new, strenuous activity. Walking is considered safe to initiate when pregnant.

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends 30 minutes or more of moderate exercise per day on most if not all days of the week, unless you have a medical or pregnancy complication

How Can I tell If my Dog is pregnant?
Q. I haev a golden retriver she matted with my boxer on memorial day and have had them seperated since and we took her to the vet and she said they cant tell yet i haev to wait 50 days and than come back to see if there are puppies and if so how any and how big!
But I need to know the early signs of pregnancy, she is sleeping like all through the night and half the day, she isnt as peppy to go on walks as she usally is!
could my baby be preganate, and if she is is the puppies gonna take after the mommy or daddy cause the daddy has a big box head and I already had the money for a C-Section the day my dad found then locked together!

BUT COULD MY BABY BE PREGNANTE?
SHE WAS IN HEAT WHEN SHE MATTED WITH MY BOXER
SHES NOT SHOWING THAT MUCH BUT SHE WONT EAT MUCH ANYMORE!

SHE WAS IN HEAT FOR A WEEK WHEN MY DAD FOUND THEM LOCKED TOGETHER!

A. Rub your hand along her belly as you have probably done so many times before. The first thing you will notice is that her breasts and nipples are enlarged. Sometimes they also produce milk early in the pregnancy.

Dogs don't have sex unless the female is in heat, and usually all it takes is one exposure. That's all my little dog had, and she had one puppy. Most dogs breed at least twice during the heat--that increases the number of pups. Dog pregnancies last approximately 59 days. So mark your calendar with the dates. Good luck.

How much does a C-Section on a dog (French Bulldog) cost on average in North America ?
Q. What about an artificial insemination ? Any numbers ?
Yes, she's my 4 month very healthy, adorable and somewhat obedient puppy...

I'm not planning on anything, I'm just curious !!! Gosh...

Thanks for the answer though .. ;-)

A. You're not going to get accurate responses in this forum... Your best bet is to contact veterinarians in your immediate area and get quotes from them...

The fact is that no ethical or reputable hobby breeder ever, ever, ever sells any female dog without a mandatory spay clause in the sales contract so that pretty much means that your dog is of "dubious" origin whether she does or does not have AKC-registration papers... The breeding of French Bulldogs really is labor-intensive and costly and so many things can go wrong... Even if you chart the fertility cycle and time everything accurately, your vet can insert the semen and the dog may not get impregnated... So you could be out the money for the stud fee, plus the vet fees, and wind up with a non-pregnant dog... Then your dog can contract Brucella / Brucellosis if you don't have the male properly health-screened beforehand... That can cause an aborted fetus... Your female can contract other STDs or U/T infections, through no fault of her own... And there's always a risk of Pyometra or even "false" or "phantom" pregnancies...

Before C-sections, you'll have to discuss the options or ultrasounds or X-rays with your veterinarian (so factor in additional costs)...

And when it comes to the C-sections, the cost'll vary between having a scheduled appointment or an emergency... Some dogs show no signs of labor so breeders think that all's going well and they jot things down in their calendars only to have the dog go into labor in the middle of the night... An unplanned emergency can multiply the price two or three times more than the estimated cost... So there are just too many variables to give you an accurate reply.

Don't do it... The world really doesn't need more ill-bred dogs from backyard breeders... Let the people that devote their lives to the showing and raising of these special companion dogs do it the way it's intended to be done.

Best wishes : )

When do dogs go back into heat after they have given birth?
Q. I am adopting two pitbulls off of craigslist the person says that she adopted them from someone else and the female was pregnant and she had her puppies July 22nd or July 24th. I was wondering when they will most likely go back into heat so I know how much more time I have to fix them?

A. Pregnancy doesn't affect the heat cycles so if you don't have her spayed she'll go into heat approx. 6 months from her last heat. So, go back approx. 9 weeks from when she whelped and then add on 6 months. Not that I got a calendar out, but I'd say approx. mid Nov. Better get her spayed NOW!

How soon do signs of pregnancy start?

Q. I missed my period this month but didn't think much of it since I had just had sex about a week before it was due. Now I feel really sick all day long and I'm always hungry. I've also been getting really bad headaches and I've been really emotional. Are these normal signs of pregnancy?
He said he wore a condom but we were drunk, and I'm not so sure he did. I'm not worried about it if I am I just wanted to know if it was possible before I freaked him out with a pregnancy test.

A. yes they can be but also early signs of pregnancy all depends on the women themselves so you might be only way to know for sure is a test

What were your earliest signs of pregnancy?
Q. What were your earliest signs of pregnancy? How soon did they occur?
Also, How common/rare is it to have a period during pregnancy?

A. Hiya,

I found out I was pregnant 4 days before Christmas and it was a massive shock! I had been on the pill for 5 years so did not think this would happen, however i was having my normal break through bleeding in-between and it did not occur to me that I would be pregnant, I'm always very careful! However It would have been around the 6th week I started to feel sick, tired, and very hormonal so did a test 2 weeks later to check, and low and behold, I was pregnant. the doctor explained that it is not abnormal to have a period/breakthrough bleeding and early signs are different for everybody. If you are worried, I would got yo your gp just to check. They are always very supportive.

Hope this helps :-) x

What were your first signs of pregnancy?
Q. What were your earliest signs of pregnancy? Apart from "missing a period", because really, that's a given. Is there any chance of experiencing pregnancy symptoms before your period due date and realizing that you've actually missed it?

A. Boobs were fine - but really sore nipples! It was odd cuz I don't usually get that. I was also, and still am sooo tired. The one thing I noticed afterwards was that I actually didn't have many symptoms at all. Normally before my period every little thing made me think I might be pregnant. But this time around I barely noticed anything. Maybe it's because I was too tired!!

What are the signs of pregnancy in the first weeks?
Q. I am just gonna list some things that i have been feeling the last two weeks..
1.Fatigue
2.Lower Stomach Cramps
3. Back-aches
4.Head-aches
5.Discharging alot
Ive also have been feeling hot in the face area but no where else.
It has been harder for me to poop, and i pee a little more than usual.
I need some help with what the first signs of pregnancy are.
Other than the ones of the internet cause those dont seem to help.

A. Well, you've pretty much said them all!

The only one I don't see, which will come on at maybe 2 months, is the Morning Sickness/Nausea.

The symptoms are from hormonal changes. Sometimes there is also dizziness/fainting.

These could also be a sign of a UTI/Bladder/Kidney infection.

Good luck...and I hope congratulations are in order.

How do I get rid of acne? Got acne for the 1st time during pregnancy. Acne located on forehead, chin, cheeks?

Q. I always had beautiful skin my entire life then once I got pregnant, my face, chest, and back were affected by acne. I tried proactiv and other products; however, my skin only dried out. In dier need of a solution. What do I do?

A. Beware of using any products for acne unless they have been prescribed or recommended by your doctor. People make all kinds of suggestions about the best thing to do to cure acne. Some cures Ive heard include putting oatmeal, honey, lemon juice, tea tree oil, cucumber, vinegar, milk of magnesia or toothpaste on your face. Practically every cosmetics company and company that makes personal care products makes something that is a sure cure for acne. If we think about this, and use some common sense, we have to come to the conclusion that there is no quick or easy cure for acne, because if there was it would be well known and doctors would be telling everyone about it.

Numerous companies make a lot of money persuading people to buy products that at worst will make the acne worse, and at best may help some people a little. Often fewer products are better. People often make their acne much worse by using too many products. There really is no quick fix for acne. Dont spend a lot of money on products just because their ads say that they will cure acne. Your doctor is the best person to ask for help, and he or she may recommend some prescription medication or non-prescription treatment that may be suitable for you..

There are some very simple and basic things you can do that cost nothing. Keep your face or any other area affected by acne very clean. Any mild antibacterial soap will help with that. Rinse the area well to remove all soap residue. Drink plenty of water it really does help to clear up acne. Eat a nutritious diet and get enough sleep. A healthy life style will make a difference. Try to reduce the stress in your life stress contributes to acne, so also probably the more you worry about the acne and focus on it, the worse it will be.

Probably the most useful and effective things you can do are to apply hot compresses to pustules and cysts and never to pick or squeeze pimples. Playing with or popping pimples, no matter how careful and clean you are, nearly always makes bumps stay redder and bumpier longer.

Here are a few informative links with additional ideas about preventing and treating acne.

My hubby said that my acne is clearing up, can acne clearing up be a sign that labor is approaching?
Q. I am 38 weeks and my whole pregnancy my acne has been horrible but just tonight my husband said it looked better.
I also noticed that last night when i would roll over i would get very dizzy for a few sec and the last few days ive had some queasy feelings.

A. Acne

Maintain a routine. Most acne treatments take time to work. It usually takes between two and eight weeks before you see any significant improvement, so you are going to have to be patient. Once you've gotten your acne cleared up, it's important to continue with the treatment that's working so it does not return.

If all else fails, contact a doctor. Mild antibiotics that are available only by prescription can help reduce acne. Keep in mind though, that the widespread overuse (taking antibiotics when you really don't need them or for something they don't treat) and misuse (not taking medication for the specified amount of time) of antibiotics has led to the development of multiple antibiotic resistant bacteria. That means that the antibiotics won't work for the things they used to (including your acne).

How did you spouse react to your pregnancy acne?
Q. I am 10 weeks pregnant and I am getting acne all over my chin! It is so depressing and makes me feel so ugly. I dont even want my husband to look at me! Did you feel the same way? I dont like him to see me looking so ugly it makes me feel horrible especially since he has completely clear skn! I dont know what to do. Its so embarrassing It is really upsetting me! A. my boyfriend has never said anything to me. he loves you for who you are. otherwise, why did you get marrie? you are carrying his child. i think the last thing on his mind is the fact you have a couple pimples. theyll go away afterwards its all just hormones. try not to think about it. easier said then done, i know. itll be worth it in the end. :)

Why am i scared my pregnancy will just go away?

Q. I know it wont, im not ignorant. Some days i feel pregnant and others not. my boobs are getting bigger and are getting heavy and hard? i did the due date calculator and it said im like 7 weeks. But i have not gotten the proof of pregnancy yet. i do that Monday. I took 3 HPT and they all came back positive. you would say im pregnant right? Its my first pregnancy so im of course worrying. like i said i know it wont but is it normal to feel this way?

A. I had the same worry but yes you are pregnant. And like the first answer i too worry if he's moving enough. But each check up reconfirms it for me. Just today i was the the store checking out and i had been standing a little too long so my belly was hurting a little then i felt a little gush of something and i was so worried that my fluid was leaking that i ran to my car and checked...i had peed a little :-(I
I had let my mind go from zero to nine hundred in a matter of seconds!
So we all just need a calming breath.
Ps i was on my way home anyway so i wasn't too worried about the pee. That i can fix an actual leak not so much.

How accurate is an online due date calculator?
Q. I'm not exactly sure how far along I am in my pregnancy, and I have not seen a doctor yet due to family problems. I will be seeing one soon, but until then, I'm curious as to other people's experiences with what they found online versus the doctor's word. Thanks!

A. Online calculators go by your LMP (Last menstrual period)
Your doctor also will go by your LMP until you have your first ultrasound.
Then it will change based on the size of the baby.

For example.
Based on my LMP my due date was January 22nd, 2012.
Based on my ultrasound it is January 20th, 2012.
You go by the ultrasound date.

I KNOW SHE DIDNT GO TO THE DOCTOR YET. I can read. What are you talking about?
I said the doctor will go by her Last menstrual period. Which is what the calculators go by therefore they are the SAME until she DOES have an ultrasound.

Moron.

Why do online pregnancy calculators calculate you furthur than you really are?
Q. I know the exact date of conception, and I used an online pregnancy calculator to see what my due date was. Well, it calculated a whole week more than what I am. It said I was 8 weeks 4 days when in all reality, I am ALMOST 7 weeks. Why is that? Is there a reason it does it that way?

A. B/c they date your pregnancy from the 1st day of your missed period just like the doctors do. So even though u may know the exact day you conceived they will always go by your last period start date.

What are my chances of having kids with having endometriosis twice?

Q. I had the surgery when i was 17 and now im almost 20 and the endometriosis come back 3 months later after the surgery. So right now I am putting up with the pain, but my biggest concern or Fear is that I wont be able to have children? Does anyone know what the chances are of me being able to have them?

A. Not impossible, but not a high chance without medical intervention. You're also at a high risk of having an ectopic pregnancy due to tubal blockages caused by the tissue growth. Discuss this with your doctor, they can give you options to up your chances.

I wish you the best.

Edit-
Correction; women have a 20% chance of conceiving each month, not 40%. And that's with healthy, fertile couples!

You can Google that info or go here:http://www.webmd.com/baby/your-pregnancy-week-by-week-weeks-1-4

What are the best treatments and products for endometriosis?
Q. Does anybody know of anyone who was cured by a specific treatment, product, or diet that had endometriosis? Or does anybody have any advice that would be helpful? Anything that can at least minimize or stop the pain? Please let me know, thanks!

A. When I was diagnosed with Endometriosis many years ago, it was already so bad that my ovaries were on the verge of rupturing so I had to have emergency surgery. The doctor removed one ovary and left the other teeny partial ovary so I wouldn't go into menopause at such an early age. He also removed massive endometrial tissue from my uterus and almost every other internal organ. Before the surgery Naproxen (Alleve) really helped but it was prescription strength back then.

I remember hearing back then that a pregnancy would "cure" it but I don't know anyone (including myself) that would choose that option and I am sure it involves much more along with the pregnancy.

My daughter was diagnosed too and had a laproscopy done to see how far along the disease was and it so bad that she had to have a total hysterectomy at age 27.

It is a scary thing to go through but just like many other health issues, an early diagnosis helps a lot! Talk with your doctor about your questions and concerns because there may be other treatments out there now that weren't available when it happened to me or to my daughter. How long does it take for endometriosis to come back?
Q. I was on the pill for three months to suppress by endometriosis. I went off the pill for approximately 4 months. Could the endo come back and cause infertility in only four cylces?

A. Everyone is different. The pill does not get rid of endometriosis, if you're lucky it can suppress it. The most effective suppressive therapy with pills is where you take your pill everyday and don't take the sugar pills for seven days you just move on to another pack. Every three months or so you stop for seven days so you can have a period. The less periods you have the less chance you have of having endometriosis be severe(theoretically) But again, everyone is different. Some people like myself have it very mild and I've only had to have one surgery. However, it took me quite awhile to get pregnant with my son. My friend on the other hand is only 34 and has had two surgeries and after the last one her doctor told her he'd give her six months to get pregnant and if it didn't happen she needed to go ahead and have a hysterectomy. Luckily she got pregnant and hopefully will have a full-term healthy pregnancy. I also have another friend who's had three surgeries and was unable to get pregnant without having a surgery to "clean out" all the scar tissue and even then she had a couple of miscarriages and has only been able to have one child. Your doctor is really the person to ask. If your doctor doesn't think you need a laparoscopy then you are probably fine.

Is there something I should know that might happen later after pregnancy?
Q. I am married. I had a baby almost a year ago.I have had a regualar period since the pregnancy. My period has been going for 2 weeks now its not normal red discharge it is brownish with a hint of red.My period only lastest nomally for 3-4 days.
I am not on birth control. My periods have been normal untill this point.
I made an appointment I just wonder what could it be...
I am also 23 years old. If that would make a diffrence.

A. If your periods are now painful, perhaps you should look into endometriosis. Some women develop it after having children.

It's too late for you to still be bleeding from giving birth.

You should go to the doctor.

How bad is fast food when you're pregnant?
Q. I am 22 weeks pregnant and my biggest weakness is fast food!! I try not to stop, but it is harder than I thought!! I do try to eat healthier when I am at home, but during the week I find myself stopping for lunch at fast food places.

A. It's not too bad as an occasional treat, but try to keep it down to once or twice a week.

Also, all fast food is not equal - I had gestational diabetes and one thing they gave me was nutritional info on common fast foods. So, chik-fil-a's grilled chicken deluxe, whole-wheat bun, no mayo, fit the diet, but their fried chicken sandwich didn't.

If you can't limit the fast food, try the following tricks:
Get the fruit cup and a small fries, instead of just a large fries.
Try small hamburgers instead of the 1/4 pounders
No mayo / special sauce - mustard and ketchup only
If you like chicken sandwiches, go for grilled not fried
Quizno's had some yummy soups and salads (and I'm not much of a salad eater).
Get water or OJ instead of sodas, but avoid caffeine if you do drink sodas
Two Taco Bell Crunchy Taco Supremes + water, no sides, fit the diet too.

Avoid the value menu items - they are really just set up to sell you lots of calories and fat that you don't need.

This will also help keep you from gaining a lot of weight during the pregnancy - I actually lost 5 lbs the month after they put me on it. And that baby weight is *hard* to get off - mine is only starting to come off 2 years later.

Im not eating that much this pregnancy and the only veg is peas is this enough?
Q. I try and eat a balanced diet and every day have 3 peaces of fruit and with a main meal I have frozen peas, usually with pots and fish, for lunch a sandwich with cheese or something. Are peas enough vegetables? oh and do u think the odd take away hurts, like once a week? x

A. no its doesnt hurt you have to have varied diet plan peas its fine
you have to include more calcium in your diet
here is a sample menu i followed durring my pregnancy
http://www.healthy-baby.org/Samplemenus.pdf
ps dont forget the prenatal vitamins once a day

Diet tricks that actually work?
Q. I had a baby 7 months ago and during my pregnancy I gained 40 pounds. I've recently been working out but I have problems that slow my process down. I like bread, rice and soda. What can I substitute for those items that can actually help me during my weight loss process?

A. ** Easiest answer is Self Control, Motivation, and Order of Food Intake.

** I tend to find fruits that I love, such as Apples, Nectarines, Oranges, Pineapple. If you need to keep yourself busy you can get a fruit juicer, and try to blend flavors, (I find Orange Juice and Strawberries create nice flavors to mix with). You will find yourself eating a lot of the fruit while you are making these. Fruit have lots of liquid and fiber, which will also help decrease your appetite!!! Fiber also helps clean out your intestine, which in turn allows for a more natural digestion.

Bread: **Multi-Grain** White Bread and Wheat Bread has no real health benefits.
Low Carbs means your body finds energy in your storage (ie. Fats [~ Glycogen]).

** The easier the diet is, the easier it is to follow. You will be on your way to 'easy' weight loss. Easy is a bit relative, as you can't 'only' change your diet. You have to change your habits. Late eating and grazing must come to a minimum. Don't graze your Dinner Left-overs, put them away RIGHT AWAY!

** Decrease the size of your Dinner! If you are American like I am, then as a society our largest meal tends to be Dinner, but our bodies aren't able to expend all of that energy and it tends to get stored away... (counter productive).

** Create a MENU and stick to it, include your snacks (Hopefully its fruit). Keep rice, pasta, breads to a minimum. If you don't eat rice/pasta/bread at every meal, when you do decide to eat them it will tend to taste better (since its not the usual).

** Just eat most of your regular foods and increase fiber, fruits and vegetables. Find what you like and take control of your metabolism.

** Get your family to do the same and support each other. Healthy eating helps you feel more energized and helps you think much more clearly. Don't CUT OUT what you enjoy, just eat it more sparingly. It really works, and you don't have to attempt to try some crazy acai berry scam. (If you don't like your money, I am more than willing to take it).

When working out, just focus on keeping your heart-rate at just under a high cardio level. Sweat is good, inability to breathe is bad. (Ex: I am about 25, I keep my Heart Rate at about 140-165, I also listen to very high tempo music and focus on breathing, stay relaxed, if you can't slow down until you have trained yourself to breathe. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.)

Note: Your 7 mo. baby is about at the age to consume soft solid foods, such as the juices or smoothies. (two birds with one stone, feed yourself and your baby, eating the food yourself will interest him/her as well, if you haven't noticed)

I personally believe nearly all diets are useless. They require you to have great self-control, with no room for slippage, or else you could be set-back weeks. You trick yourself into thinking, you can't do this diet, its too hard/impossible... So I say again: FRUIT, fiber, and veggies! Decrease the size of your late/evening meals.

Stay hydrated, to allow all the urinary flushing as possible. Your body know's how to cleanse itself. Just give it the chance to do so.

Are the wives tales of genders true? The swinging of the ring and all that stuff?
Q. I did a quiz online about wives tales to find out the gender of my baby. It said it was a boy. Is it right? Did you find out that they all turned out wrong and had the opposite?

A. The only old wives tale that hasn't failed me is where you compare your body before and during pregnancy. If you only get big in the tummy, it's a boy. If your whole body spreads, it's a girl. In other words, if you basically look the same except for the baby tummy, it's a boy. If you got fat, it's a girl. Pretty accurate for me so far.

What can make your period late other than pregancy?

Q. Yeah, I dont wanna hear about pregnancy. I just wanna know WHAT else will make your period late. Name everything, and if you can, describe?

Thanks :)
Im 13, btw. If that has anything to do with it.
Thanks for the answers, they were really helpful lolol. Well I was stressed for 2 months straight and have been losing a LOT of weight, Im assuming from being stressed. Hah, so thats probably why its late :p

A. Reasons for late periods? This is the checklist I go through with my clients:

1. Pregnancy. (Sorry, but I always include that possibility).
2. Recent miscarriage or abortion.
3. Loss/gain of 10+ pounds. Affects hormones.
4. Recently-begun exercise program. Affects hormones.
5. Illness. From common colds to ovarian cysts to adrenal disorders, these can affect hormones. Even something like a bladder infection can do this.
6. Medications. Especially birth control medications, steroids, narcotics, alcohol, and some phenothiazines.
7. STDs.
8. Stress. Even everyday stress can affect the adrenal glands, which then affect your hormones.
9. Age. Some girls take up to 3 years after menarche (first period) to become regular. Some women never become regular at all.

Your menstrual cycle is a process in which your brain and your ovaries send hormonal messages back and forth constantly. This is actually a delicate balance in some girls and is easily upset.

How early can milk be produced in (2nd) pregnancy?
Q. I'm not even sure if I am pregnant yet, so I have been running through checklists of possible symptoms. So I checked to see if my breasts were sore and I squeezed what looked like a drop of milk out of both of them. This would be my second pregnancy if infact I am. I took a test this morning and it was negative, but my dates could be off due to irregular cycles. My cycles used to be really regular (29 or 30 days every time) but of course as soon as we started trying for baby #2 they started ranging from 30 to 43 days in a cycle. Right now I am on day 35 but I don't know if I can trust a negative at this point. I simply hate the waiting game so if there are any experienced Moms out there with advice or information for me I'd appreciate the help.

A. it wouldn't be milk it would be colustrum and yes in fact hat can happen it can happen in woman who aren't pregnant too if they have been pregnnat before it is easier for them to produce it especially when their hormones are out of wack. this is my first pregnancy and i started leaking at about 5 months

How long after you have sex can you get pregnant ?
Q. && what is a list of checklist of pregnancy symptoms?

A. Ok so here is how it works. We ovulate at some point in the month. Each of us at different times and we can ovulate each month on a different day. When we do drop that egg we are fertile meaning able to conceive usually within a 12-24 hour window. However, sometimes we will release a second egg and that will be the next 12-24 hours and it lasts the same amount of time. That is how long the egg is good or viable. The next thing though is that sperm can live inside for up to 5 days waiting for the egg! So you could actually have some waiting around then when you do ovulate that egg gets fertilized. That is why we are fertile 4 days prior to ovulation, the day of and the day after.

Another thing to know is that it takes about 6-12 days for the fertilized egg (baby) to travel up the fallopian tube and implant into the uterine lining. That is where they baby will grow. Then another few days for your body to produce enough of the pregnancy hormone hCG to be detected on a home urine test. Some more sensitive ones will pick it up sooner but you have to use your urine as soon as you wake and without having anything to eat or drink. Don't dilute the sample.

AS for symptoms, most don't start or truly start until you are about 6 weeks. I personally had really sore and larger breasts, dizziness, and felt sick or nauseous before I even got my positive. Some women have a stronger sense of smell and fatigue as well. Those are the more common ones. The thing is that you can't go by symptoms alone. I've had every one and missed my period and still not been pregnant lol. Your body can really play tricks on ya. My advise is if you are worried about it, wait until you miss your period. Though it can be delayed due to later ovuation or stress. Then get a Dollar Tree test or head to the doc and test. Use your first morning urine or don't drink any thing. Read the results in the first 3 min and wait no longer than 10.

Best of luck and blessings :)

how much weight does a baby gain in the last weeks of pregnancy?

Good luck!

A 29-year-old woman claims that pregnancy caused her stomach to look bad and hips to expand. Can this be true?

But it can n does happen

Do my wife needs bed rest in last week of pregnancy?
Q. We have an asian tradition to arrange for a housemaid/female supporter etc during last week of pregnancy ( especially in 1st pregnancy) till 40 days after giving birth. The female take complete bed rent during this time.
Is there any medical logic behind it. Does a female really need to take bed rest after delivery or she can continue the routine work ? I am really confused as now i am living away from native country and maids etc are quite expensive here.
Sharing your personal experience will also be highly appreciated. Thanks

A. No need. My wife and I know lots of other that are doing things up until the deliver. No need unless the doctor says bed rest.

Is it possible for some women to not experience any early pregnancy symptoms?

Q. My husband and I are in the process of trying to conceive. I missed my period by a few days. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative, is it possible for some women to not experience early pregnancy symptoms?

A. Its possible, however not very common. With my son, really the only pregnancy symptoms I had though, were sort of sore boobs.. No morning sickness or fatigue or anything else.. So anything is possible.

How soon after conception can early pregnancy symptoms show up?
Q. I am about 5 dpo and I have been extremely tired for the past 4 days and I have some clear vaginal discharge which I thought was supposed to go away after ovulation. Could these be early signs of pregnancy or is it too early for these to be early pregnancy symptoms??

A. Its too early. The hormone hcg is only produced once the egg attaches to the uterus. This doesn't happen until about 7dpo. Its this hormone that is connected with pregnancy symptoms. Most women don't experience pregnancy symptoms until about the 6week mark when the hormone has built up. The symptoms you experience after ovulation are due to ovulation. Vaginal discharge, being tired bloating, sore breasts, weight gain are all post ovulation symptoms and are just due to the change in hormone in control of your cycle from estrogen to progesterone.

What are some of the WEIRDEST & UNEXPECTED early pregnancy symptoms you experience?
Q. What are some of the weirdest and unexpected early pregnancy symptoms that you started experiencing after getting that BFP? Does anything like leg cramps and weird dreams sound familiar? Ladies, please share :-)

A. I've had very vivid dreams since a few days before I got my BFP--in fact I dreamed about positive HPTs for several nights before I finally decided to test.

My most unexpected symptom has been that my hands and feet fall asleep more easily now--I suppose it is due to increased blood flow or something.

Can early pregnancy symptoms come and go?
Q. Earlier this week I had been experiencing strong early pregnancy symptoms. Sore breasts that had become veiny, low back aches, abdominal cramping etc... Today the cramping has been much lighter although I still have low back aches. Is it normal for early symptoms to come and go or should I be alarmed?

A. dont worry they will come and go but once your in active labor they will stay. it just means your that much closer to having your little one, congrats

What is the best pregnancy test i can buy?

Q. I just asked a question about a clearblue digital test, but i need to know now what is the best, earliest, possible pregnancy test i can buy either in stores or online. If i am pregnant i am roughly 3 weeks.

A. If your buying from the shop (rather than ebay) then go for a first responce - but check the packet as they do an early one and a not early one. The early one goes from 6 days before and is then around 68% accurate i think, gets more accurate every day. Then also leave it for the full reaction time before dismissing the result.

Also if it is 3 weeks from conception it should work if it is 3 weeks from your last period then you need to wait about a week to test (if your on a 28 day cycle) or longer if you have a longer cycle.

Good luck!

How long can it take to get a positive pregnancy test?
Q. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. My period is 10 days late and its been about 3 weeks since I had sex. I saw online where sometimes it can take a long while.

A. At 10 days late a negative result is most likely accurate. tests can take a while to turn positive when you test BEFORE your period is due or maybe on the day its due it might still not be positive or might be faint.. but at over a week late, it would be positive by now.

How accurate are pregnancy tests that have been sitting around in your home for a few months.?
Q. This morning I used a pregnancy test that I purchased from the HPT online store about a few months ago. It was still in the original packaging but has been sitting around since March 07. Right now I am about 4 days late for my period but my last period I think was actually implantation because it started two days before it was expected and was brown and pink. Then it stopped and I had a light period. I tested then with a similar test but I figured if I just implanted right before my period then it would be too early.

To make a long story short, my periods are always this glamorous production meaning I get cramps and nausea a full week before it actually comes. Now I have nothing but a big stomach, constipation, and constant sleep. So to get to my reason for posting this question, will using old test give me a false response and if so what tests generally work well? I am going to Wal-Mart today but will not test again until wednesday morning.

A. It could be expired or if you read the instructions it says you should not store below certain temperature in your home or over a high one we had a particularily warm summer hitting over the 100's which I k now is about what the box says (normally do not store over 85 degrees) so think of that too. I tested with First response and got the correct positive after testing with a few others and getting negatives. Good luck!

How soon can I take a pregnancy test and it be accurate?
Q. I started my last period on August 11th, and according to ovulation calenders I found online, I would have ovulated around the 23rd (Give or take a day). We had sex once a day from the 21st until the 27th. I averaged my period to be between 26-28 days apart. When should I try to take a pregnancy test and expect it to be accurate?

A. Wait til 14 dpo, trust me. Take an early result test at 14 dpo. I've been testing before my missed period and all I'm getting is negatives and going broke, and anxiously wondering if maybe it's just not showing up yet. It sounds like you have a very good chance! Good luck!

What are some really really early signs of pregnancy?

Q. I've been having some weird things go on with my body the last few days and i didn't know if it was too soon to tell whether i'm pregnant or not. I am taking Yaz or Yasmin the birth control pill and I missed one last week working late and my husband and I have had intercourse since I just don't want to go out and get a pregnancy test .... any early signs i could watch out for so i can brace myself or will one pill even matter??

A. As long as you had been taking the pill for at least 2 weeks one missed pill cannot generally be enough to get pregnant. The hormones should still be off whack enough to keep you from getting pregnant. Now some people do get pregnant on birth control without missing any, so anything is possible. First thing I noticed other than the lack of a period was my boobs are super sore. Also slight cramps as things expand down there.

What are the earliest signs of pregnancy you can get?
Q. I need to know if there are early signs of pregnancy?

A. When was your last period and when is your next one due? The greatest likelihood of becoming pregnant occurs just about mid-way between periods. Is that when you had sex?

If conception has taken place, about 8 days later some women experience spotting (like a very light period but not) and some cramps. This doesn't happen to everybody, but it can be a sign that something is happening in your body. That "something" is actually the unborn child implanting itself in the uterine wall where it will grow for the next nine months.

If you are pregnant, because of the changes taking place inside your body, as early as one week after conception, you may feel extremely tired at any time during the day.

Sometimes as early as one to two weeks after conception, some women notice that their breasts are tender to touch or slightly swollen.

Areolas are the skin around your nipples, and pregnancy causes this skin to darken.

This is one of the most common indicators that conception may have taken place. However, some women still have "mini" periods even while pregnant, but this would be very light and for a very short time. Meanwhile, if you are pregnant, by about the time you've missed your period, your baby's heart has started beating.

If you are pregnant, the sudden rise of hormones in your body may cause you to have headaches.

If you are pregnant, nausea may occur between 2 and 8 weeks after conception. This can occur any time of day, not just mornings. Some women never experience this, and others do. It's during this time period that your baby has been growing rapidly. By about 6 weeks his/her brain waves can be recorded, and by 8 weeks his/her body is complete, right down to the fingerprints which will be carried throughout life.

If you have several of these early pregnancy symptoms, the best thing to do now is have a pregnancy test to confirm or deny your suspicions. Do not wait!

You don't have to come up with the money or sneak into a pharmacy to get a pregnancy test. If you think you might be pregnant, here's an easy way to find out.

What are some of the early, early signs of pregnancy?
Q. Right now it feels like I'm about to have my period but I know it's too soon and my breasts are hurting a little bit. But my breasts always hurt when my period is coming so I don't know if I'm pregnant or not. That's why I want to know some of early signs of pregnancy because it has only been maybe two weeks. But me and my boyfriend have been trying to have a baby so I hope so but I don't want to get my hopes up too high. So can anyone tell some of the early signs. (Like two week symptoms maybe; if that is possible at all)

A. I have heard a lot of women say they have a little higher temp. Cramping like mega PMS with no blood, Head aches and nausea some with hurting bb's some with out, slight back aches.

Why does it mean when a pregnancy test shows positive then negative?

Q. Well my wife and I have been trying to get pregnant and it has been almost 3 months since her last period and all the symptoms have been applied along with movement in her stomach. We recently got a "One Step Pregnancy Test" from CVS and the test started to show positive and then went to negative. I have been getting a lot of people telling me that she is pregnant, what do you think?

A. it seems she is pregnant, but she should try another test to make sure

Clearblue Digital or One Step Pregnancy Test Strip?
Q. Which one do you think is more reliable?

Has anyone used the One Step pregnancy test? If so, was it the early testing one (10miu) and how early did you get a positive ?

A. clearblue

Would a home pregnancy test be accurate for me right now?
Q. I would be 7 weeks.
which do you recommend?
Clearblue Easy Results or store brand Walgreen's one-step pregnancy test?

A. at this point, purchase the cheaper one because you will likely have enough HCG in your system at 7 weeks for the cheapest, least sensitive test to work. If you were testing at 4 weeks, I would recommend First response (not the digital one).

What are the priniciples of procedure of a Pregnancy Test?
Q. I need to know what the prinicples of procedure are of an MDS QuickCard hCG One-Step Pregnancy test...

I need this put into simpler language I can understand. : The test employs the basic immunochemical sandwich assay principle, relying on the recognition and formation of specific antibody / hCG / antibody complexes. C

Can someone explain how this procedure works in relatively simple language but scientificly.

10 points for a sensible answer please

Thank you
How does the test work exactly?

A. Pregnant women make the hormone hCG. The test checks for hCG. If you have it in your system, you're preggo. If you don't, you're probably not.

Can I take a pregnancy test 31 days after sex?
Q. I took a pregnancy test this morning. The last time I had sex was on June 17th, so it would be exactly 31 days today. The test came back negative (whew!). Do you think it was an accurate test result, or do you think I should test again in about a week?

Is 31 days long enough to get an accurate result from?

A. 31 days is plenty long enough. If the test said negative, you are NOT pregnant.

good luck!

How accurate would a pregnancy test after 2 weeks be?
Q. I have been told that a pregnancy test 2 weeks after having sex can be accurate. But *how* accurate? If it comes back negative, what are the chances of pregnancy? Like, if my g/f and I had sex on the night of October 31, how accurate would a pregnancy test administered on November 15 be?

A. The earliest a pregnancy test is likely to be accurate is 5 days prior to your period. Even then, it will be much more accurate 2-7 days after a missed period. It took mine 1-2 days after a missed period to show up positive.

Has anyone flown long distance flights in relative late pregnancy?
Q. I am planning a long distance flight (12 hours) in my late pregnancy - week 33. It is not a problem with the airline as long as I get OK from my doctor.

Looking for personal experience of flying this late in the pregnancy?

A. I have flown in internationally with my first two pregnancies at various stages. I was 31 weeks pregnant when I flew internationally with my last pregnancy. I will be 30 weeks later this summer when I fly internationally with this pregnancy as well.

As long as you get a check-up from your doctor and he/she says you are fine, then go for it. Double check with your airline because usually this late in pregnancy they require a note from your doctor dated within 72 hours of the flight.

Even if the airline itself says that you are fine, and even if you bring a doctors note, you must remember that the final decision is up to the Captain (who will be informed by the gate crew of your status).

FAA Airline regulations state :

Obstetrical patients are free to fly, but pose a significant risk in later stages of precipitating delivery during flight. Pregnancy past 32 weeks should be carefully considered for restriction from flight and must be accompanied with an authorization note from a doctor. Those past 36 weeks should be prohibited from flying unless personally accompanied by their doctor. (Taken from my husbands flight security and survival manual & FAA site) http://www.faa.gov/other_visit/aviation_industry/designees_delegations/designee_types/ame/media/Section%20II.7.1%20Transportation%20of%20Patients%20by%20Airline.doc

While traveling I advise you to keep your medical records, and the name and number of your doctor. You should also get the name and number of a doctor where you will be staying/visiting in case an emergency comes up.

To keep yourself safe and comfortable on the trip, follow these simple things:

*drink plenty of water
*avoid caffeine
*don't eat food that causes gas for at least one day before you travel (pressure builds up as you ascend through the altitudes and could cause pain)
*walk around as much as you can (up and down the aisles)
*stretch while sitting
*wear loose fitting clothing
*wear slip on shoes (your feet may swell)
*wear maternity support pantyhose or socks
*try to get an aisle seat or a front row seat for more leg room
*eat light foods
*eat small meals or snacks at frequent intervals rather than big heavy meals
*do not eat salt
*ask for a seat belt extender (depending on how big you are) and wear it just under your abdomen
*relax

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

I am completely confused about my due date?

Q. I went into the doctor's office yesterday and had a pregnancy confirmed. He told me that my due date was June 26th 2013. I was looking at a pregnancy calender on Web-MD and the website said my due date was May 27th! My last period was August 18th, 2012. I have not had an ultrasound yet but now I'm already confused around what time I should be expecting. Should I trust the doctor's word?

A. Without having an ultra sound and going by the last period it should be May not June maybe the doctor read the chart wrong.

i was wondering were I can get the pregnancy calender software?
Q. When I typed in pregnancy calender on yahoo search a lot of different things popped up and I scrolled down and I saw someone had answered a question, and said they had a desktop program that tracks your pregnancy and a vertual baby grows on your computer. If any one can help I'd appriciate it. Thanks

A. Go to whattoexpect.com or babycenter.com

A. interesting choice! lol

Best way to put together a pregnancy test costume?
Q. I think I finally became creative and thought of going as a pregnancy test for Halloween this year. Any ideas on how to execute this idea so it's obvious what I am when people see me?

A. wow that is creative!!
I guess you would need a long box or two boxes taped(stapled) together.
you may need to cut and tape the box(es) to fit your body
paint it all white
paint a little "window" with the pink or blue + sign
also wear all white under it
